About the event

What comes to mind when you think of "care work"? Who is doing this work? What do they look like? How much money do they make? Where do they live? What are their lives like? Who cares for the care givers??

Normative colonial culture perpetuates a violent disconnection between beings of all kinds with a detrimental impact on our ability to listen, relate, give and receive from one another. Some ways we see this play out is between races, genders, partners, parents and children, human and non-human. The fabric of our well-being is being stretched to threads and that shows up in the modern world with asymmetrical relationships between who cares and who does not -- who cares about injustice, who cares for children, who cares for our water and food, who we care for and who we refuse care to, who is positioned to decide what care can be expressed, how, to whom and at what cost.

Journeying through learning beyond the standard education system allows us unique opportunities to explore the observable and subtle ways that care has been teased out of the ways we relate to ourselves, our children, our communities and resources. The intimacy and responsibility that is born out of remembering and reclaiming our ancestral birthing, parenting, and learning practices is the fertile ground that grows the value and culture of care.

Join us as we grapple with the relationship between caregivers and care work in the current power structure while reimagining what it can look like to be in intimate and reciprocal relationships.
